Challenge

The legacy website had accumulated over 129 critical SEO and usability errors flagged by Google, making it difficult for potential clients to find or navigate the platform.

The project faced the following challenges:

  • The first challenge was achieving top-tier search engine performance.
  • The second was designing a UI that felt both empathetic and professional
  • The third was aligning the UI with Houghton House’s brand
  • Lastly, the UI needed to be easy to use for those in distress or recovery.

Solution

Smudge initiated the project with comprehensive strategy sessions, involving all stakeholders before any design or development began. These workshops helped refine the user journey, the brand’s digital tone, and the platform’s messaging.

The platform was built on WordPress CMS, connected to a MySQL database, and hosted on a managed, dedicated server for performance and stability. Smudge also developed a lead management workflow where all inquiries were stored and tracked through a secure admin dashboard, empowering the Houghton House team to manage conversions more efficiently.
